What is Illustration? Presentation Feb 21st

My boss requested that I begin my session with a self-introduction to my creative practice and give a brief explanation of what exactly illustration is to the students, as they haven’t done any illustration workshops in the past.

I went back to look at my notes from the lecture series we did in first year, as well as read some articles online and created a document of research. I also included some slides from a makeshift portfolio I made in order to apply for a job to explain my personal practice.

  • Winter Pecha Kucha Slides Dec. 12

I decided to illustrate my presentation in a similar way I did during Unit 7 because I think illustration really complements dense information. It definitely looks as messy and as rushed as it was though. Next time I will use more colour. to clean it up a little… and maybe not leave it until the literal last minute?

  • Dec 12th Presentation Script

I didn’t have a presentation the day before the Pecha Kucha so I had to stay up all night making and drawing the slides, writing the script etc. I only had one chance to practice my presentation before presenting and I went over time…

Highlight any of your CAF scores that have changed (since your Autumn Formative assessment) What has influenced the changes in your answers?
I think a lot of my scores have increased due to having taken on more placements and projects this term. This term I ran my own workshop at a youth arts group, and I’ve just begun co-running an after-school art project at a primary school. Because of this and doing the creative shift live brief I’ve been having non- stop meetings, and have taken a role in setting up and organising them myself.

    Your development

What plans/contacts are you making for your next placement or to develop the placement?
My final placement will be working at Kozmoz International in Kyoto between April 1st and June 18th. I’ve recently purchased my flights, and my next step is to purchase and reimburse my insurance so I can confirm my placement with the DPS. I also need to email my boss in order to complete the risk assessment form.
What ideas do you have for your SIP that you would like to discuss with your tutor?
My first SIP is a book I’m making out of the character design workshop I ran last Saturday. It’s responding to the disconnect that young people in the city might feel with nature, and how that might affect their views on environmental politics.   My second SIP is a collaborative project I’m running with Cymon from Fine Art Drawing, which is about creatively expressing children’s perspectives on the world and their hopes for the future.

    Your Wellbeing

Are you managing your time & work/life balance ok?
Not really, all I do is work until I crash and then miss work and then go back to work again. But people say that it’s good to be busy so it’s
